The 2nd Battalion of the Cheshire Royal Engineers (Railway) Volunteer Corps was formed in 1887 of employees of the locomotive department of the London and North Western Railway. They were also known as the Crewe Railway Volunteers and were involved in active service during the Boer War of 1899-1902. The Corps was disbanded in 1912.
